Our Philosophy

STEPS of Recovery’s Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Treatment Program has been designed for clients just
coming out of active use or relapse, referred via a Drug Court, PO, CPS, or mental health agency, or an ASAM
Level of Care (LOC) 4.0 or 3.7 detoxification program. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM)
defines the nationally accepted Levels of Care (LOC), management responsibilities and goals for accepted and
appropriate addictions treatment.
Our SUD treatment program is a total of typically 9 – 12 months of continuum of care in our various
facilities in our peaceful single site 3-acre complex in Gallipolis, Ohio. This extended duration of care model
has been foundationed on evidence – based management as defined and recommended nationally by ASAM,
from 15 years of SUD management experience, and additionally observations of ongoing relapses/recidivism
outcomes from various programs with shorter, less structured or less monitored programs.

Recovery is a journey, not a destination. Every step forward is progress!

When I arrived at Steps of Recovery, I was broken—spiritually and mentally. Within my first week, I ended up back in a psychiatric hospital, but when I returned, they welcomed me with open arms. That compassion, combined with stability, structure, and medication management, changed my life. With Doc’s support, I’ve experienced a dramatic turnaround. I’ve regained my spiritual footing, built healthy routines, and even reconnected with my father after three years. I’m not able to work due to my mental health, but contributing through chores here has given me purpose and accountability. I do what I can to help, and this place continues to help me. Steps of Recovery treats both substance use and mental health, and I recommend it to anyone who needs help—I even told people at the hospital about it. STEPS has believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and this program gave me the tools to rebuild my life.

STEPS of Recovery has helped me build support in my life, and has helped me with relapse prevention and definitely helped me with my metal health. The counselors here go above and beyond and really made me feel a part of the family. Before I came here my mental health was a mess and I had a hard time staying sober. STEPS helped me develop coping skills that I will need in life. I definitely will be incorporating these coping skills in my day-to-day life.

STEPS of Recovery was a great place for me because it helped me come out of my shell. I was able to build sober support and connections with others. STEPS taught me to hold myself accountable to continue on my path of recovery. STEPS taught me the skills I needed to stay sober and rebuild my life. STEPS helped me get my approved for Social Security. I now have a year and 3 months of sobriety and I have rebuilt my relationships with my family. I would like to thank everyone at STEPS for having my back and pushing me to get through the program.
